And that's cold bloody comfort for the 99.999% of human society who are at best mere spectators of the events unfolding in the Middle Eastern imbroglio aka Iran /Iraq /Syria.
Having brazenly violated recognised tenets of International Law as well as long held diplomatic norms and conventions, POTUS Trump as Commander-in-Chief threatened in the most egregiously graphic terms to annihilate Iranian cultural sites should the government in Tehran consider some sort of retaliatory action against the US for its assassination of General Soleimani.
Even the most reliably docile and compliant lickspittle NATO lackeys of the US were moved to point out that Trump's apocalyptic threat,if enacted,would constitute a war crime.
Trump and his coterie of war-mongering Neocon hawks -Pompeo et al blithely acknowledged this a couple of days later and muttered something about of course the'll be obeying international law on this matter.
Meanwhile, elements within the Iranian leadership ordered the firing of some ballistic missiles at targets inside Iraq being used as airbases for US led coalition forces.
Trump's tweeted response to this Iranian violation of International Law etc. was "All is Well"...
The UK government's posture on any of this is utterly and entirely superfluous and irrelevant and has no bearing on the situation.
Bluff,bluster and a vainglorious recapitulation that Britain used to be something 100 years ago are simply the ill rehearsed soliloquy repeated by idiots; full of sound and fury and signifying nothing.

On the third day of the beginning of a new decade,POTUS Donald Trump ordered the assassination of Iran's leading military Commander General Soleimani. The drone strike took place at Baghdad International airport in Iraq.
You could argue that several ,what are considered inviolable,tenets of International Law were violated.
One head of state ordering the killing of a prominent general of another state whilst they are not at war with one another, on the territory of a third state is indisputably gangsterism.
Then again, the conservative Republican neocon faction and their liberal Democrat overseas interventionist counterparts in Washington DC are the very bedrock of US imperialist foreign and military policies.They are both the authors of chaos and the harbingers of cataclysm.
The Rubicon has been crossed.
The only scenario left to ponder is,when it will be deemed expedient to eliminate a Chinese or Russian general in such a similar fashion.

In the corporate MSM freakshow that's currently espousing the fate of one irrelevant individual ,Shamina Begum,every supine kowtowing Islamist shill and metropolitan multiculturalist apologist is buzzing like bluebottles around decaying meat,There are now a thousand and one " human interest" stories of westerners who traipsed off to volunteer for The Caliphate and now,of course,like the Germans in May 1945 express their regret at having chosen their sides so badly.
Please let "us" not be nasty or spiteful toward them.Please.Tens of thousands of battle-hardened,trained ideological fanatics,have been shepherded out of the Syrian / Iraqi conflict zones with Saudi,Turkish and Israeli assistance and in effect been given freedom to make their own way back to their various european and other western homelands.

ISIS Re-Establishes Historical Sanctuary in Iraq

Marking the occasion of the anniversary of Trump's ordered missile strike on Syrian airbases in 2017,Israeli aircraft launched their own missile strike against a Syrian airbase. As per their protocols for such incidents,the Israeli high command refused to confirm or deny any such event.But it was Israel.
There are several previous recorded and verified incidents of Israeli airstrikes against Syrian airbases,their excuse being that they were targeting Iranian military facilities at those bases.Well,that makes it all hunky dory then.A country that is officially not at war with another country can pop across the border and do a bit of bombing,run off back home and thumb their noses at International Law.
The world just took once huge irrevocable step toward triggering a Nuclear 1914.Apparently the Israeli regime was incentivised ( or thought it was jolly good idea ) to strike at Syria prior to the US doing so because it seems that Herr Trump is once again hugely aggrieved at reports emerging from the imbroglio that is the foreign-engineered Syrian civil war,of poison gas being used against civilians.
Erdogan's blitzkrieg and the meticulous ethnic cleansing of Kurdish populated regions bordering Turkey are not so much of a concern to the pseudo-moralistic posturing on Syria by the US and its NATO satrapies with,of course dutiful bootlicking lackey Tory UK austerity regime to the fore with its otiose cant.
Turkey is a NATO member,Erdogan's original wheeze of a scenario was to try and persuade the US that the Kurdish Syrian militias-part of the US backed SDF anti-Assad coalition- were themselves posing an outside existential threat to the Turkish state,which if it were actually true would oblige all NATO members to come to Turkey's ( Erdogan's ) immediate aid and declare all out war on the Kurds. Who,darn it from Ankara'a point of view are not a state actor;which is why NATO legally can't act.
And on and on.The Saudis and Qatar continue to ply Syrian based Al Qaeda affiliates,who've undergone dozens of changes in nomenclature to try and fool the CIA ( not all that difficult) with vast amounts of money,arms and intel support.This Wahabi ultra extremist strategy marries up nicely with the super scale atrocities the KSA is perpetrating in Yemen even as NATO member states including the UK has military advisors on the ground witnessing and sanctioning this unspeakable barbarism being carried out with a knowing nod and wink from Washington.
Head for the hills,is I fear no longer a viable survival strategy.

On February 15,the US secretary of State,Tillerson met with Turkey's Foreign Minister to discuss the current burgeoning imbroglio following Erdogan's launching of a blitzkrieg against the Syrian Kurdish enclave of Afrin.
This what the pair of venal,posturing petomaines of international diplomacy and apprentices of Realpolitik came up with as a statement at the conclusion of their hastily arranged rendezvous:-
“Turkey and the United States reaffirm their commitment to the preservation of the territorial integrity and national unity of Syria. To this end, we will decisively stand against all attempts to create faits accomplis and demographic changes within Syria, and are dedicated to coordination on transition and stabilization of Syria.
“Recognizing the fact that there can only be a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and that it requires a viable political transition, Turkey and the United States agree to intensify their cooperation to bring about this result within the framework of established parameters, namely the UNSC Resolution 2254, and through the Geneva process.”
The US and its errant or otherwise compliant satrapies are present inside the territory of the sovereign state of Syria without the permission of the legitimate government of Syria.
It's what used to be called an " invasion " ; such an action was customarily undertaken as an integral part of what used to be called declaring " War ". Not that any country has actually declared war or anything else against the sovereign nation State of Syria.
No,not at all,the US and its NATO/EU lackey running dogs are simply there inside Syria on their own cognisance.They are ,minus all the carnage,war crimes and needless mayhem, trespassing.

Washington has confirmed that its aircraft killed around 100 fighters they describe as belonging to Assad's forces.
Which is just fine and dandy but for one crucial lacuna in the U.S. " doing the right thing for humanity " narrative.
The US shouldn't even be in Syria,irrespective of whether they're merely advising and training or as this latest episode has so glaringly highlighted,yet again actively taking part in combat missions against the forces of the legitimate government in Damascus.
A government that has invited certain friendly foreign states to assist it in its existential battle for survival against various indigenous and islamist terrorist insurgents.
All the diverse military elements of NATO satrapies -UK,France,Canada,Italy,Turkey et al ,as well as their lord and master the US , are in violation of international law by being present on Syria soil against the wishes of the Syrian government.
Rabid dog Erdogan's " Operation Olive Branch " blitzkrieg against the Kurds in and around Afrin is the same category of international war crime as are all the other actions of all the other US/EU/NATO forces ( to which can be added Israel ) carried out against the Syrian government ,its forces and those of its allies in the campaign against ISIS/Daesh and the other insurgent terrorists SDF/FSA/Al Qaeda.
Despite earlier doubts,it is to becoming increasingly clearer that the world is sleepwalking into a kind of Nuclear 1914 scenario.
An otherwise unconnected series of events,none significant by themselves, are lining up and a historic synchronicity is bringing about a significance they would otherwise not have. Think the two contiguous Balkan Wars that as it turned out preceded the Great War.

Supposedly in connection with Russia's actions regarding the existential crisis in the Crimea or some such peripheral matter of interest to the western kleptocracies.
In May's partially paralysed mind all the aforementioned is of a far greater and more urgent priority than the on going imbroglio ( or should that be farrago ) that is Syria.
Where the US and its european NATO satrapies embeded their armed forces on Syrian sovereign territory to bolster and maintain the anti-government Syrian Democratic Forces in contravention to accepted International Law.
As in fact did NATO member Turkey; but their in-theatre confederates are in active competition with the SDF.
And both those US/NATO backed lumpen aggregations of armed rabble are vying with ISIS/DAESH as well as the legitimate sovereign government of Syria and its international allies.
The city of Raqqa utterly flattened by US/NATO air force bombing, was subsequently faux-liberated by the SDF and the western MSM cheered it to the rafters!

This mendacious sectarian political manoeuvre has caused a great deal of apprehension in Iraq itself but also amongst neighbouring countries including,Turkey and Iran. Turkey in particular has endured a decades long Kurdish PKK led campaign of terrorism against the Turkish state.
Were all that not enough, the Kurdistan Question/dynamic is enveloped inside and now inextricably bound up with a quasi-regional/global conflict surrounding ISIS/DAESH and all of its implications and possible consequences.
It is worth reiterating that Russia ,Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah are assisting the legitimate,constitutional government of Syria at that government's request.
The United States and its various NATO satrapies are in gross violation of International Law by in effect invading Syria.
The anti-government ( largely Syrian-Kurd led ) SDF - heavily supplied and supported by the US - are in the throes of making a grab for Deir Ezzor city and province and are clashing with the Syrian Arab Army and its Russian allies amongst others.
The recent targeted assassination in the field of Russian Lt.General Asapov and two of his Colonels has added yet another twist to an already volatile situation.

" Russia will not allow the United States as well as any other foreign power to limit an area of operations of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province, Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov announced on 29 September
Syromolotov added that the Russian military has informed the United States about the area of the SAA operation against ISIS and will not tolerate US attempts to slow down the liquidation of terrorists in Syria.
The diplomat emphasized that the situation when some power that operates in Syria without any legitimate right attempts to limit government forces efforts to liberate their country from the terrorism is nonsense.
He also described the US-led coalition’s air campaign as questionable saying that it has led to a full-scale humanitarian crisis in Raqqah city. "
Raqqah , the former ISIS/Daesh capital is currently in the throes being " liberated " by the SDF.
Clearly the best resolution lies with Russia ,Turkey and Iran relinquishing their petty antagonisms and isolating the US western imperialist block from all substantive future undertakings to bring the conflict to a close.

The former mayor of London made the remarks during a meeting with nations that supported anti-Assad forces during the Syrian Civil War, in the fringe of a United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York on Monday.
Johnson even stated that not only would the UK refuse any development aid for the reconstruction of Syria after the end of the war, but so would any of the other states that sided with Syrian rebels in past. This would include the United States, France, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, all of whom had representatives in the meeting that Johnson spoke to.
“We believe that the only way forward is to get a political process going and to make it clear to the Iranians, Russians and Assad regime that we, the like-minded group, will not support the reconstruction of Syria until there is such a political process and that means, as Resolution 2254 says, to a transition away from Assad,” Johnson said.
Interestingly, the UN Resolution 2254 that was voted into effect in 2015, makes no mention whatsoever of the removal of Assad from power, contrary to what Boris Johnson seemed to imply.
Johnson’s statement seems to contradict earlier statements by representatives from other former anti-Assad states. US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield earlier stated that “there has got to be a political process if there is to be any international participation in the reconstruction of Syria,” seemingly supporting the Russian mediated peace negotiations going on in Astana currently.

Another day, another test missile fire from DPRK aka NorthKorea. The missile was again reported as flying over sovereign Japanese airspace.
US Secretary of State Tillerson has " demanded " that both China and Russia take firm measures against DPRK.
This is what an international diplomatic relations kind of Groundhog Day looks like in a world of supposedly independent sovereign nation states.
The UN security Council is due to convene later on today in order to discuss this latest North Korean missile incident.
It's only a few days ago that the security council passed a resolution imposing additional sanction against DPRK for its nuclear bomb tests.
Business Insider UK of 11 September applied lateral thinking to this seemingly intractable and worsening Korean imbroglio.

While the proposal itself is fantastical and far-fetched, Yun Sun, an expert on North Korea at the Stimson Center, says the core concept could work.
"Kim Jong Un understands that as soon as society is open and North Korean people realize what they're missing, Kim's regime is unsustainable, and it's going to be overthrown," Sun told Business Insider.
For this reason, North Korea's government would strongly oppose any measures that mirror Willink's suggestion.
Sun pointed out that when South Korea had previously flown balloons that dropped pamphlets and DVDs over North Korea, the Kim regime had responded militarily, sensing the frailty of its government relative to those of prosperous liberal democracies. "

It's only a few short weeks ago that the CIA ( aren't they part of the US state ? ) announced its withdrawal of military support for the ragbag coalition of forces commonly referred to as the Free Syrian Army. Then again elements of the US military are still actively stationed inside fortified installations inside Syria assisting and advising the very same FSA.
Meanwhile the clowns of the Turkish regime's governing elite have let it be known that they are mightily displeased with the US continuing its support- military and financial to the YPG ,the Syrian Kurdish faction who themselves co-operate with some elements of the FSA.

There is nobody in Washington, either in the Trump administration itself or amongst the politicians in Congress or amongst the Military/Security apparatus, who has ever been called upon to debate and explain in public the strategic rationale and constitutional justification for the US opposing the legitimate sovereign state of Syria and for supporting Al Qaeda and ISIS.

On Saturday, Georgia congressman and former Civil rights activist,Lewis told NBC News that he did not regard the incoming president as legitimate. Within hours,Trump criticised the Democrat congressman in a tweet, " “Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart".
The " Guardian " somewhat triumphantly noted that :-

On Thursday 23rd. June I went to bed fully persuaded that,much as I wanted it to, #Brexit wasn't going to happen and that on waking up on the morning of Friday 24th. I'd be assailed by the smug triumphalist tones of Remainers on Radio 4. Waking much earlier than usual,I turned the radio on and.. History had happened. Pretty much the same routine occurred last night. I woke up around 02:00 GMT Wednesday 9th. November was dawning with self-confident,self-satisfied Democrat Party notables and appartchiks foretelling the inevitability of a Clinton coronation. Getting back to sleep with an oh well,never mind,World War 3's on its way then, I looked forward to carrying on with the quotidian when I got up nearer my regular time. And then, History happened,again. June 24 gave me an epiphany and that was repeated around 06.30 this very morning. The US establishment elites and the incumbent political class and the Commentariat and all the experts just got hammered into the ground,again just as their counterparts were on June 23 in Great Britain. Joy unspeakable, or nearly so! A lot of people, especially the rabble of benchwarmers of all parties in the House of Commons chamber,have been getting rather upset these last few days about yet another issue they can do nothing about other than have a collective pseudo-moral hissy fit over. To put the aforementioned's hissy fit in context; The US and its NATO satrapies have, one recalls this past quarter century, pretty much screwed things up royally in a whole host of formerly stable, sovereign nation states. Iraq,Yugoslavia, Afghanistan,Iraq a second time,Libya and Syria. I exclude the Ukraine from this inglorious litany for the simple reason that NATO hasn't actually bombed anyone or anything as yet in that particular theatre of operations. Back to Syria. Said H.o.C. benchwarmers in August 29.2013 REJECTED a government motion that Parliament authorise UK military intervention in Syria in response to the alleged use by the Syrian government of chemical weapons against civilians. Fast forward to December 2 2015 and this time said H.o.C. AUTHORISED UK military airstrikes in Syria directed exclusively against ISIS/DAESH. As the former Head of MI6 observed whilst appearing of BBC Radio4's " Today " program, you can't really fight against both sides at once in a conflict. He ought to have added especially in a three plus sided conflict at that. The much vaunted and lauded sanctioned airstrikes in 2015, with the involvement of 2 planes and no actual effective strikes have been just a waste of effort. All the planning and conspiratorial shenanigans of the EU and NATO in their various forums trying to cajole the myriad hornets' nests of " moderate " i.e. non-ISIS opposition forces in Syria including Al Qaeda to evolve into something that can be financed and supplied with weapons-that too hasn't really worked for the US and its grandiose designs on a post-Assad Syria. And so we come to the five years long siege of Aleppo. Only this time, the faux wrath and ire of the H.o.C. benchwarmers is directed at Russia because it has been lending military assistance to the constitutional government of Syria. How odd it appears that in International Law, let alone accepted norms of global diplomacy and peacetime relationships between Sovereign states,that the parliamentary body of one state whose armed forces are operating in and across Syria openly and covertly WITHOUT the permission of Damascus, denounces the actions of another state who ARE operating in Syria WITH the permission of Damascus. Odder still, that the legally legitimate actions of Russia in conjunction with Syria are deemed to constitute a war crime comparable with Nazi Germany's use of the Luftwaffe in Civil War Spain of the 1930's. Such is the destitution of learning and paucity of historic fact checking within the House of Commons that they are ignorant of when the term War Crimes actually entered the lexicon. Germany's intervention in 1930's Spain was never characterised by contemporary sources as a " war crime ". Whilst at the time Britain and France observed a strict neutrality that included a refusal to render any assistance whatsoever to the besieged, legitimate Republican Spanish government. Foreign Secretary Johnson's wantonly provocative call for demonstrations in front of the Russian Embassy in London are the classic tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury, signifying nothing; as for Johnson himself, he is a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more..

Public discourse on virtually any topic or issue of note,tends invariably toward the sensational and the superficial . Even those who once might have been acquainted with a modicum of academic/intellectual rigour are nowadays prone to the self same vices afflicting the great majority. The Right articulates and expresses its worldwiew in bullet point, tabloid speak as does The Left. There are, however the odd exceptions to this general rule of thumb. Ambrose Evans-Pritchard,writing in the Daily Telegraph being foremost amongst that small grouping. Whilst the Right and Left bleat and rail and hurl calumnies at one another with the joyous abandon and nihilistic lack of rational foresight and analysis we have all become accustomed to from those mutually antagonistic quarters, the likes of A.E.P. et al endeavour to maintain and promote what seem now like hopelessly arcane qualities of journalistic candour. Chancellor of the Exchequer Osborne's fairy-tale pronouncements about growth, recession, productivity, investment and this or that tax, are exposed, as indeed are all variants of such thematic nonsense, as the grand idiocies for which they are. Dans la Merde. That's where the faltering,dysfunctional global capitalist economic system is heading straight into, yet again. Not even having gotten itself out of the Merde it jumped into back in 2007/08. We - the 99% - can expect no better. Austerity is endless, or at least until a sufficiently critical mass of mobilised public opinion gets around to initiating an epochal sea change.
Harsh and brutal and as unjust as they are or might appear to those most affected by them, the paltry economic/fiscal policies announced and at some stage enacted by whatever government in any " Budget " are as but a few individual lashes from a single whip held by a solitary Roman soldier serving an army of an empire whose global pre-eminence is predicated on the enslavement of millions. Getting them to desist from using whips would be a start...

The Syrian regime continues its brutal repression of all those who have chosen to question in public,the regime's legitimacy.This is causing the western powers,ie the US and its NATO aligned Satrapies a huge headache.Having pressed the "Gung Ho"response button on Libya;no-one in the west has got any worthwhile military capacity spare to lend a hand to the anti-government forces in Syria.And sat quietly in the corner at the UN are China and Russia,no doubt smirking to themselves at having had the diplomatic acumen to not impede the passage of UN security Council Resolution # 1973.The once seemingly endless entourage of current and former Military men and diplomats and Ministers and expert commentators and whoever the heck else the Media could get hold of,to pass an opinion on Libya;well they're all gone now.they've had their inconsequential say and pronounced their servile US bootlicking sermons and now they're on a well earned vacation.And the cities of Syria are burning.
