The UK enters an 11-month transition period to allow time to negotiate a new relationship. That means staying in the EU single market, its customs union and paying into its budget.
 A more significant moment could be 1 January 2021, the UK’s first day outside EU rules. Under the Brexit withdrawal agreement, that day could be delayed until 2022 or 2023, but Johnson has ruled out any extension of the transition period.

The Brexit Secretary says he has “set in stone” the repeal of the European Communities Act 1972 — but the legal significance of this misleading claim is very limited

Earlier today, the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Stephen Barclay MP, posted a tweet saying that he had “signed the legislation setting in stone the repeal” of the European Communities Act 1972 (ECA). (The ECA is the UK statute that gives effect to EU law in the UK’s domestic legal system.) He went on to assert that this is a “landmark moment” because it “underlines that we are leaving the EU on 31 October”.

I have signed the legislation setting in stone the repeal of the European Communities Act 1972. This is a landmark moment in taking back control of our law. It underlines that we are leaving the EU on October 31.

At best, this is misleading. All that Barclay has done is to bring into force section 1 of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (EUWA). It says that: “The European Communities Act 1972 is repealed on exit day.” However, the effect of bringing section 1 into effect is decidedly modest. Most importantly — and, given the wording of the section, obviously — bringing that provision into force does not immediately repeal the ECA: rather, it only repeals it on “exit day”. “Exit day” is currently defined by section 20(1) of the Act as 31 October. But other provisions in section 20 enable the definition of “exit day” to be amended if the date of the UK’s departure from the EU changes under EU Law. Indeed, this is precisely what happened when extensions to the Article 50 period were agreed between the UK and the European Council in the spring.

There is no legal reason why this could not happen again — and, crucially, bringing section 1 of the EUWA into force makes absolutely no difference to this point. Whether section 1 is in force or not, it only produces legal effects from “exit day”. It follows that if, for example, Parliament were to require the Government to seek, and if the European Council were to grant, a further Article 50 extension, the definition of “exit day” could be further amended in order to ensure that the ECA was repealed only with effect from the new, later date of the UK’s departure from the EU.  This, in turn, means that — contrary to his claim — the Brexit Secretary has not “set in stone” the repeal of the ECA. The EUWA explicitly contemplates that “exit day” can be changed in order to enable it to be aligned with the actual date of the UK’s departure from the EU.

This leads on to a further, and critical, point. “Exit day” is a concept whose relevance liis wholly in domestic law. It is the date on which various provisions of the EUWA swing into action, in order to ensure that the domestic legal consequences of leaving the EU are appropriately managed — including by converting vast swathes of EU law into domestic law. However, the domestic definition of “exit day” has no bearing whatever on when and whether the UK leaves the EU. That is a matter that is governed exclusively by EU law. Similarly, whether the ECA is in force or not has no bearing on whether or when the UK leaves the EU — although if the UK were to repeal the ECA before leaving the EU, it would immediately be in breach of EU law. From this, it follows that whether the ECA is repealed or not is neither here nor there when it comes to whether or when the UK leaves the EU. All it is relevant to is whether, for as long as it remains a member, the UK does or does not comply with the legal obligations under the EU Treaties that are binding on it in international law.

All of this demonstrates that the legal significance of bringing section 1 of the EUWA into force is extremely limited. It does not “set in stone” the repeal of the ECA, because the legal meaning of “exit day” can be changed and the date of the ECA’s repeal deferred. It does not prevent the UK Government from seeking an Article 50 extension. It does not prevent Parliament from legislating to require the UK Government to seek an Article 50 extension. It does not prevent the European Council from granting an extension if the UK Government asks for one, whether of its own volition or at Parliament’s insistence. And it does not prevent Parliament, if it so wishes, from legislating to revoke the UK’s notification under Article 50, thereby stopping the Brexit process in its tracks. The politics, of course, are another thing. But any suggestion that ECA repeal has been “set in stone”, or that this somehow locks in 31 October as the inevitable date of the UK’s departure from the EU, is wrong as a matter of law. ECA repeal, and Brexit itself, are no more “set in stone” today than they were in the spring, when “exit day” was twice redefined in domestic law and the Article 50 period was twice extended as a matter of EU law.

The under-rehearsed participants are actually believing themselves to be in a real world authentic constitutional political struggle,which of course from the audience /spectators’ point of view they are not,only seeming to be so for the sake of parliamentary verisimilitude.

The amendments were “broadly in line” with government policy, which is why the government accepted them.
By 305 votes to 302 – with 14 Tories rebelling – MPs backed an amendment that prevents the UK from collecting taxes on behalf of the EU, unless the rest of the EU does the same for the UK.
Applying EU tariffs to products destined for the EU is part of Mrs May’s plan to avoid friction at UK borders after Brexit.
Another amendment, to ensure the UK is out of the EU’s VAT regime, was backed by 303 to 300, with a Tory rebellion of 11.
Three Labour MPs voted with the government.
The government won several other votes more comfortably, and the entire bill was then approved by the House of Commons by 318 to 285.

The Conservative/Labour duopoly itself, as entrenched defenders of the archaic FPTP which keeps them eternally as the two major parties,seems to be have been cast into existential doubt during the course of the parliamentary imbroglio of recent days. Leading Conservatives such as Dominic Grieve and Anna Soubry supported by leading Labour EU shills,openly advocate a government of national unity to replace the present ailing May minority regime.

Suffice it to say ” Schadenfreude ” ;at least for now.

The new session of the european parliament convened in Strasbourg the other day. And with it,the EU entered the decisive phase of diplomatic/political horse trading to get its new  leaders in place.

Ultimately, it is the heavy hitters France and Germany and their mutually respective and fluctuating allies that influence/stage manage /cobble together sufficient votes in the parliament to give their imperial appointees at least some veneer of legitimacy.

That by itself would be enough of an otiose event as to preclude anything else that might cause friction let alone excitement among the parliamentary attendees.But no, it was the UK's Brexit Party MEPs who managed to garner the facile opprobrium and spurious media headlines with their stunt of turning their backs toward the musicians scratching out the " Ode to Joy " -that most ersatz and superficial of all anthems anywhere or as the metropolitan Labour Pravda  Guardian put it:-

Efforts by Hungary and Poland to control funds directed to NGOs are blocking negotiations over the renewal of a €1 billion Norwegian scheme to support civil society.

The Central European governments want to take funds from organisations supporting women, gay people and the homeless, among others.

Norway has refused to give in to such demands, meaning that negotiations are stuck.

"The situation is very unclear. In the worst case, the whole support scheme could be blocked," said Vera Mora from the NGO Okotars, which administered the last Norway grant scheme in Hungary.
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, in exchange for their access to the EU single market, fund initiatives aimed at reducing social and economic disparities in poorer EU member states.

Norway is by far the biggest donor of the so-called EEA funds, doling out some 96 percent of the money.

Poland is the largest beneficiary, followed by Romania and Hungary.
Under the next scheme, which runs until 2021, Poland stands to receive €809 million, Hungary €215 million.

The funds cover some shortfalls in healthcare budgets and help companies to adopt green technologies. They pay for the upkeep of cultural heritage sites and fund research projects.
Roughly 10 percent of the cash is dedicated to independent support of civic society, a mandatory part of programme.

In Poland, the Law and Justice (PiS) government has formally announced that it would like the money to be channelled through a government body - although they have yet to establish the body.

And frankly my dear that is quite outrageous! especially given that a strand of contentious opinion on #Brexit recommends that the UK go the EEA route to maintaining Single market access once we have actually exited the EU !!

As a rule of thumb, the further east and south you go across the continent of europe the greater the incidence of systemic corruption within EU member states. The scale of it beggars rational belief.It makes the Danegeld tribute paid by 10th.Century English Kings to keep the foreign invaders quiet seem like spare pocket change.

Brexit needs to be done asap, no further negotiations whatsoever, no compromise transitional EEA membership.

Initially, the elections were not planned as the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union (following the 2016 referendum) was set for 29 March 2019. However, the British government and the European Council agreed to delay Brexit at the European summit on 11 April. While it is the default position in UK and EU law for the election to take place, the UK Government is continuing attempts to avoid participation by agreeing withdrawal before 23 May.

and what precisely is this "parliament " allowed to do?

Article 14 of the Lisbon Treaty describes the functions of the European Parliament:

 “The European Parliament shall, jointly with the Council, exercise legislative and budgetary functions. It shall exercise functions of political control and consultation as laid down in the Treaties. It shall elect the President of the Commission.”

While the legislative powers of the European Parliament are discussed in the following subsection, its other main powers are then:

Budgetary: together with the Council of Ministers, the Parliament agrees on the budget.

• The Commission drafts the budget and in April each year sends it to the Council of Ministers and the Parliament
• The Parliament debates it and, if needed, proposes changes. The draft is sent to the Council, which can propose its own changes, if required, and forwards it back to the Parliament for the second reading.
• The Parliament can reject it (as it did it in 1979, 1982, and 1984) or adopt it .

Scrutiny: the Parliament has powers over the European Commission and the Presidency of the Council.

• It can dismiss the Commission and the Commission needs to submit to the European Parliament regular reports, annual legislative programmes and reports on the implementation of the budget. The Council’s nominations for the positions of the President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy must be confirmed by the European Parliament. Finally, the College of Commissioners must be approved by the European Parliament.
• The Presidency of the Council needs to report to the EP on its priorities and progress.

Appointments. The European Parliament :

• Appoints the President of the Commission, approves the appointment of the Commission and has power to dismiss it.
• Confirms  the appointment of the president and vice-president of the European Central Bank.

• Consults on the appointments of the Court of Auditors

Wow!! so in essence when it comes right down to it, it can do f*** all about f*** all,because ultimately it's the 27 Heads of State or their representatives acting as the EU Council that do all the heavy lifting.

The UK has 73 allocated seats made up of 12 artificially constructed  "regions" with 6 MEPs in each plus an extra seat for Gibraltar included in the South West  "region" allocation of 7. The closed party list system, a recognisable and acceptable form of proportional representation,means you have one vote only and that for the party and its list of 6 candidates as ranked by them. Which is a merde really ,whereas giving the voter the choice of marking the ballot paper in order of individual preference across any and all parties' candidates 1 through to 6 may be deemed unwieldy but the actual exercise of autonomy of choice would be superior.

The ultimate irony of course remains ( unintended pun) the fact of the UK's participation in the 23 May elections,as seems increasingly likely as at 24 April. Such is the magnitude of the debasement of our constitutional order that has been wrought on the Electorate by the Legislature in their vainglorious pursuit of annulling the Democratic result of the EURef 23 June 2016.

The question was rendered moot when the constitution was superseded by the Treaty of Lisbon, which Parliament ratified in 2008 without holding a referendum.

The 650, mostly idle, careerist benchwarming mendicants sojourning at the Palace of Westminster will soon be voting on,as we are led to believe, a vote on the vote of the vote on Anglican Tea Lady of the Year( Theresa May ) brexit " deal ".

But then again perhaps not.This,however is how all badly produced ,acted and directed pantomimes end.

Our largely Oxbridge educated,metropolitan domiciled elites as a whole never wanted a referendum on the UK's continuing vassalage to the EU.None of them.Even those who went to great lengths to persuade the public that they somehow had taken a sudden and passionate interest in restoring our country's sovereignty by exiting the EU
.
We have essentially arrived at the present imbroglio as a result of Cameron going missing after the spectacular mis-fire of his cunning referendum plan to head off UKIP in the 2015 polls which led to a committed Remoaner being stage-managed into the Tory leadership and thereby the premiership.

Which is all basically third rate political persiflage that passes for deep,meaningful political and philosophical debate in contemporary Britain.

Across la Manche, Gilets Jaunes are causing increasing consternation among France's europhile globalist ruling elites with astounding alacrity.So much so in fact that Chief Petainist Petomane Macron has given the nod  to his Riot Police goon squads to go around beating the crap out of anyone they feel like,usually at odds of 6 to 1 in favour of the duffers-up versus those getting duffed up.

Does any of this have any lingering or potential significance for the all too laid back,nay sanguine British electorate? probably not,then again we'll find out after 29 March,won't we?

In May 2017 ,avowed "modernising" technocrat, fanatical devotee of alrger European Union and admirer of Tony Blair -Macron became President of France after defeating Marine LePen in the run off 66-34%. And 19 months later his Presidency has reached its apogee.

Herewith the following gleaned verbatim, from The Spectator on December 3 , the first part of a a scintillating article from Brendan O'Neill;

" At last, a people’s revolt against the tyranny of environmentalism. Paris is burning. Not since 1968 has there been such heat and fury in the streets.Thousands of ‘gilets jaunes’ stormed the capital at the weekend to rage against Emmanuel Macron and his treatment of them with aloof, technocratic disdain. And yet leftists in Britain and the US have been largely silent, or at least antsy, about this people’s revolt. As part of his and the EU’s commitment to cutting carbon emissions, Macron is punishing the drivers of diesel vehicles in particular, raising the tax by 7.6 cents for every litre of diesel fuel. This will badly hit the pockets of those in rural France, who need to drive, and who can’t just hop on buses as deluded Macronists living in one of the fancy arrondissements of Paris have suggested they should. These people on the periphery of French society — truck drivers, provincial plumbers, builders, deliverymen, teachers, parents — have rocked up to the centre of French society in their tens of thousands three times in recent weeks, their message the same every time: ‘Enough is enough. Stop making our lives harder.’

It is a perfect snapshot of the most important divide in 21st-century Europe: that between a blinkered elite and ordinary people who’ve had as much bossing about, tax rises, paternalism and disdain as they can take. So from his presidential palace in Paris, Macron decrees that the little people of the nation must pay a kind of penance for the eco-crime of driving diesel-fuelled cars, like a modern-day Marie Antoinette deciding with a wave of the hand what is good for the plebs. It’s little wonder that the graffiti left behind following the latest uprising in Paris at the weekend compared Macron to Louis XVI and demanded that he resign.

 

This leaderless, diverse revolt, packed with all sorts of people, including both leftists and right-wingers, is important for many reasons. First because it beautifully, fatally shatters the delusional faith that certain Europhiles and piners for the maintenance of the status quo have placed in Macron since his election in May 2017.

And the second reason this revolt is important is because it suggests that no modern orthodoxy is safe from the populist fightback. Not even the environmentalist one.

For years we have lived in a climate of ‘You can’t say that’. You can’t criticise mass immigration — that’s xenophobia. You can’t oppose the EU — that’s Europhobia. You can’t raise concerns about radical Islam — that’s Islamophobia. You can’t agitate against climate-change policy — that’s climate-change denialism, on a par with Holocaust denialism, and anyone who dares to bristle against eco-orthodoxy deserves to be cast out of polite society. And yet now, in this populist moment, people are daring to say precisely these unsayable things. They’re standing up to the EU. They’re demanding that immigration become a democratic concern rather than something worked out for us by unaccountable bureaucrats in Brussels. And now they’re even grating against the hitherto unquestionable religious-style diktat that we must all drive less, shop less and do less in order to ‘save the planet’. "

And there you have it.

The anti -metropolitan PC multicultural elitist tidal wave across the Continent continues and is swelling by the day.

Fraser Myers writing in Spiked  concluded his article on the Gilets Jaunes thus:-

" But there is a deeper disconnect, too. Across the West, the left has struggled to know how to respond to the populist uprisings of recent years. There is a tendency on the left to denounce any shock to the status quo as driven by reactionary forces. The revolting masses are often written off as fascists.
That the yellow vests – a mass, largely working-class movement, defying the government and standing up for its interests – makes many on the left, at best, wary and, at worst, scornful is a damning indictment indeed. "

Both O'Neill and Myers analyses accord fully with my own views.

My only regret is that I'm not in a realistic position to simply pop over the Channel and taste some of the very live action for myself.

But at least Paris is burning once more and we'll always have Paris.

On December 11th, the House of Commons - 650 itinerant Westminster careerist bench-warmers get to vote on what is being characterised as " The Deal " ; the interim arrangements for transitioning the UK out of the EU.

The Grand Guignol of a Pantomime that has been " Brexit " is drawing on its last breaths ,the sham of Leaving the EU is itself drawing to a close.

The faux- protagonists of Remain and Leave are coming to the end of their carefully prepared playscript ,all utterly facile,flimsy caricatures that calling them men of straw would imbue them with the unearned deference of regarding any of them with even being remotely human let alone plausible in anything they ever did  or said.

Theresa May, is however idiosyncratically providing the bemused,baffled and befuddled Electorate with her own farewell Cadenza. A whistle-stop tour across the country to galvanise public opinion onto her side ahead of the HoC vote.

History shall view the name of Theresa May as merely providing the dot above the letter " i " in the word shit.A name that annotates the darkest and most egregious betrayal of the British People and the once inviolable sovereignty of our Nation.

The metropolitan elites and their lackeys of the political class have carried out an act of such heinous treason that it will live on in the annals of infamy forever.

There's not a great deal worth blogging about at present, in fact there hasn't been for quite some time.The two predominant topics that have motivated my output have broadly speaking been the conflict in Syria -which ineluctably is going the way of the Syrian government and its all important allies. The other topic that has occupied most of my political intellect is Brexit- and that is now all but dead and buried.

Of course there are nuanced and polemical arguments to be debated about the conduct of the various belligerent parties in Syria just as there are with the various belligerent parties in the brexit battle.But by and large all the likeliest possibilities and developments have been aired and analysed. Nothing more can be usefully added.

Back on June 28 2016, I posted this blog on the fantastic EU referendum result.

Last Thursday 23rd of June’s  witnessed  the great exercise of the inalienable historic rights and incontestable prerogative of the Sovereign British Electorate.
That  many elected members of parliament -( themselves only in office solely by that very same Sovereign exercise of the Electorate’s prerogative ) had the actual temerity,nay brass-necked insolence and insubordination to even cast the very merest shadow of doubt and contentious conjecture at the Victorious outcome for LEAVE is breathtaking in its audacity.
This is the very stuff of outright Sedition, tantamount to Treason against Lawful Authority,that Lawful Authority itself is predicated upon and is wholly dependent for its legitimacy and acceptance on the expression of Sovereign Will of the Electorate.
Equally culpable of outrageously partisan class-based and hubristic demagoguery are the Press, the Commentariat,Financiers,Artists and Academics of every discipline who by and large caricatured the 52% who voted LEAVE as mainly thick,uneducated,racist,small-minded northerners.
Naturally most of this insidious ideological invective was orchestrated,weaponised and delivered via the some 200 #LabourIn MPs. Who were left bemused on Friday 24th.June as to why ” their ” core voters – 9 million and falling,  didn’t do what they had been advised most fervently to do and vote REMAIN.
History belongs to the Masses. The Sovereignty of the British electorate cannot be countermanded. Thank God. "

The metropolitan ruling elites never fell out with each other over the 2016 EURef result.The swarms of Tory fruitflies so faux- vehemently protesting their undying patriotism were no more committed to enacting the British electorate's sovereign decision of 23 June 2016 than their equally scabrous counterparts. It was  " all lies and jsets " and we heard what we wanted to hear and disregarded the blindingly ineluctable obvious.
The EU funded antidemocratic seditionists pretending to be  grassroots #PeoplesVote knew all this from the off. they are now simply being plain and obnoxiously boorish in parading their venal bombastic triumph over the British people.

So, a few days ago it was variously reported that " more than 60 " and " more than 70 " business leaders had written to Theresa May demanding a second referendum. these 60 or was it 70 signed the letter as emanating from " Business for a People's Vote " an off shoot of the EU funded  and wholly bogus #PeoplesVote.
and then,just when you'd thought that their impudence and effrontery couldn't get any worse,get this,1,500 lawyers purporting to be " Lawyers for a People's Vote " aka EU funded City shysters on their extended lunch hour have signed a letter to the Anglican Tea Lady of The Year aka Theresa May,demanding an EURef re-run so as the stupid people might not vote incorrectly a second time as they did first.
Who was that said that History repeats itself,first as a tragedy then as a comedy.Or was that too much of a rhetorical question.

There really isn't and Peter Hitchens has said what needed saying on brexit  better,more succinctly and incisively than just about any journalist /commentator anywhere.

So, gleaned from his Mail on Sunday  blog of 20 October 2018 :-

I wanted to get out of the EU, and still do, because I believe continental law and forms of government will eventually destroy English law and our unique free Parliament.

I couldn’t give a farthing for the freedom to import chlorine-washed chicken from the USA, or fling our markets open wide to Asia. In fact, I rather fear it. I do not think that, by leaving the EU, we will suddenly export more. Why would that happen? Our goods are not especially cheap and we make little that the world actually wants. I think we will import more.

What I want to do is rip up our allegiance to the European Arrest Warrant, a grave breach of our ancient liberties which everyone seems to have completely forgotten about. I want to get rid of the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, now our real Supreme Court. And I want to stop rubber-stamping European Commission directives and pretending they are our own laws. And I would also like to shake free of the crazy policy of pushing the EU eastwards into Ukraine and the Caucasus.

If Brussels and Washington really want a war with Russia, then let them have one. But Britain has no interest at all in reviving this grubby, aggressive conflict, which has already convulsed Europe twice in one century.

These aims can be achieved by doing what I have now been urging for months – the Norway Option. This needs no permission from Brussels. It formally takes us out of the EU, so fulfilling the referendum vote. It would make the Irish border as relaxed as the current frontier between Norway and Sweden, which is pretty relaxed. It frees us from three-quarters of EU interference in our laws and life.

It keeps us in the European Economic Area, so there is no risk to the economy. It frees us from the EU’s damaging Common Agricultural Policy and from the daylight robbery of the Common Fisheries Policy. It hugely cuts our contributions to Brussels.

But, thanks to strident, inflexible groups of MPs whose main concern is their future careers, it has barely been considered.

I can’t stop them. But if they manage to lead us into chaos and an economic crash, then I shall at least try to make sure that their selfish folly is not forgotten.  "

Truth is most people probably don't a give a shit about investigative journalists.Or what happens to them or doesn't happen to them.Perhaps the only time when some random spark ignites the public's interest in investigative journalism is when a scandal is uncovered and wrong doing is exposed to the bright daylight of public scrutiny.

Not all journalists are investigators but it goes with the profession's territory.Born to snoop,to pry,to ask the really awkward questions,to dig, to get their goddamn head blown off if they dig too deep and wind up annoying the wrong people at the wrong moment.

But when all the sums get added up at the close of business,not too many give a damn one way or the other;unless and until,of course events start to impinge too often and bodies start to pile up in plain sight of the civilians who would,if they could choose,rather not know,rather not confront the mire and the blood of Realpolitik as it gets played in real time with real consequences.

Political parties and their activists and partisan commentators who keep up the volume pumped up on any and all matters and all kinds of issues ,for some reason have fallen silent on the recent spate of journalist murders.

The most recent one,just a few days ago in Bulgaria was that of local investigative journalist Viktoria Marinova,who was the authorities say was raped and murdered.She had been looking into fraud and corruption linked to EU contracts. Back in February of this year, in Slovakia, it had been the turn of Jan Kuciak who together with his girlfriend were found shot dead.Apparently Jan Kuciak had dug deep and found links between elements of the Italian Mafia and government officials.

A year ago,in October 2017 Caruana Galizia, a well known and widely respected investigative journalist in Malta died in a car bomb attack.She too had been collecting evidence on EU related fraud and corrupt local politicians.

Both in Slovakia and Malta widespread public protest demonstrations have taken place with politicians and Police officials alike in both countries being placed under intense popular pressure and scrutiny and in some cases have resigned from office.

The common thread of the awarding of EU funded contracts,bureaucratic shenanigans,the involvement of local and national political figures etc.etc. are no mere coincidence.

Fraud,corruption,,nepotism and the involvement of Mafia gangsters in the misappropriation of billions of euroes makes for a very large political cesspit.One that the European Union is wholly incapable of even beginning to deal with.

A day on from the sperm scare and the EU funded anti -brexit campaign organisation, Scientists4EU are doubling down on the vast amounts of EU funding for scientific research the scientists active in the EU funded group itself will personally miss out on in future years.

 

This is paranoid delusions as policy from the PeoplesVote aka Remain aka Labour aka Open Britain.

 

Quite what else there is for the metropolitan elitist controlled forces of Remain to exploit as a potential source of anxiety,fear and morbid uncertainty in their efforts to sow general doubt and confusion is very much subject to speculation.

Schadenfreude has never gotten this epic before.

The deal done at Chequers, ( aka Minority Tory Cabinet shenanigans), to arrive at a working consensus on the government's position at the EU Withdrawal Negotiations, so volubly heralded only a few days ago has imploded.

The Brexit Secretary David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson became the first dual high level cabinet resignations since the Falklands Crisis hit the Thatcher regime back in 1982.

Naturally the snuffling,grunting swineherds of the corporate MSM and partisan social media have been all over this with their usual autistic responses and analyses.

But it is ,perhaps perversely,a real spectacle to behold. The very last bastion of Western European "democratic" two party-rule,the carefully maintained FPTP Lab./Con.duopoly heaving and breaking apart under its myriad incompatible,archaic idiosyncracies and inefficiencies.

The broad swathe of the european continent's political geography from France in the west across Holland,Germany,Austria,Czechia,Italy and up in Scandinavia has almost uniformly felt the burgeoning tsunami of anti-globalist,anti-EU driven Populism.

All except the UK where the tensions and expressions of dissent have found it hardest to escape from the FPTP electoral unrepresentative straitjacket.

And the resignations from Tory party apparatchiks just keep coming.It's like watching one desperate assassin after another stepping up to take a pot shot at the corpse of Archduke Franz Ferdinand after Gavrilo Princip had already topped him.

Anglican Tea Lady of the Year, May ,bumbles on in that otiose and extremely irritating lower-middle class English manner with its vapid sermonising and glaring irrelevance to the issue at hand that invites others to keep handing her their dirty plates to wash.
