Well, the UK has a new Prime Minister and all the usual suspects are making all the usual noises

.Just a little over 3 years ago, had Gove not betrayed Johnson's candidature for the leadership then we would have been spared the ReMAYner interregnum, the complete bollox-up of the 2017 General Election and yes,the UK would have left the EU .

The metropolitan, globalist elitist staged EU -funded pantomime however refuses to leave the stage of history and has persisted over these last 3 years to produce ever more absurd mise-en-scenes. An endless stream of tropes and slogans of treachery and betrayal have been injected into the political discourse that followed the EURef2016 triumph for Leave aka Brexit.

It's worth reminding ourselves what depths of hysteria the globalist corporations plumbed in their role as the battering ram for the Remain /Peoples Vote seditionist campaign. On this day 25 July 2018  I posted in fahrenheit451:336 :-

Laugh or cry ? The Times  online reports:-

The head of Amazon in the UK has said that there could be “civil unrest” within two weeks if  the UK leaves the European Union with no deal. Amazon UK became the first business to issue such a warning. It was given at a meeting on Friday 20 July organised by Dominic Raab, the new Brexit secretary. Doug Gurr, UK manager for the American online giant, told the other guests, who included representatives of Britain’s biggest businesses, that this worst-case outcome formed part of his contingency planning. **************************************************************************************************************************************
The problem with the aforegoing tendentious remarks is, that in common with so many other similar stark warnings these last two years, the Remain campaign simply repeats itself ad nauseam.

Which of course is  part of their grand propaganda strategy initiated long before the 23 June EU Referendum ever took place. The seditionist cabal of metropolitan elitist Remoaner EU shills ( hope that covers everything about them ) have been rendered utterly deaf and insensate by their own ideological echo chamber.

Much in the same way that Dr.Josef Goebbels was when asking the assembled Party faithful if they wanted Total Victory -at a stage in WW2 when it was already over, done and dusted bar the shouting.
The neoliberal EU regime requires freedom of movement for surplus labour, without this facility the REC Job Agencies in the UK would be unable to run their lucrative Zero Hours contracts trade which primarily ” employ ” the economically displaced millions of jobless cozening itinerants from rustbelt eastern europe and the balkans who have in effect colonised large swathes of the UK and are eagerly sharing their common european values of stealing other peoples jobs and enjoying the luxury of houses and schools places and health services previously paid for by others.

And to cap the entire week off ,former Anglican Tea Lady of the Year and  Remoaner EU Shill-in-Chief ,Theresa May made an official announcement that she would take the lead in the Leave EU negotiations, relegating the role of Brexit Secretary to that of bootblack.

And so it goes….

There are 1,001 vastly more challenging issues and problems that ought to be occupying our attention, but still it all comes down to being stuck in the Leave /Remain quagmire.

I'm sure that the likes of Thomas Cromwell had pretty much the same view about how the Reformation was panning out in the 1540s.

Apparently WE - the royal "we" aren't voting the way that the generally smug, middle class EU funded public sector bureaucrats, professionals, academics, luvvies and shysters would like us to vote.

The "We" are still being stupid, ignorant, xenophobic etc etc. And the way they can "prove"(  as they did back on June 23 2016,that in actual point of fact 48% is numerically equal as well as  intrinsically morally superior to 52% ) that pro- Brexit parties lost the EU elections 2019 is by adding up all the votes cast for all the parties and arbitrarily assigning them top pro and anti-brexit forces.

Or as I tweeted somewhat more succinctly at the time:- #RemainSurge If you add up all the points of the other 19 teams in the Premier League, clearly Man City got fewer than them and so can't be Champions. Seriously? Boy are the Remainers f****d in their head! #EUelections2019

No,seriously they've asserted that 2+2 does really equal 5 or in fact any number they deem it whenever they feel like it.

In Orwell's  "1984" the Party hack O'Brien tells the hapless protagonist Winston Smith the very same thing. 2+2 = whatever the Party says that it does .or not or both.

This is Remainer Britain 2019 after they lost the EURef2016 and lost by proportional representation the EUelections 2019.

I give up.

P.S.
Then again I might not.

( Originally posted on May 4 2017 as fahrenheit451:147 ) and the UK government and parliament have been going round in ever decreasing circles since.

The historically moribund European Union  can be viewed as a sleazy, corrupt, kleptocratic hellhole of outright fraud and embezzlement. Amid all the venal hubristic posturing surrounding #Brexit ,once all the vacuous platitudes have been aired and philosophical points have been examined it all comes back down to money.Who pays what to whom and for what and how long for. The current article from the euro observer is particularly instructive on this matter :-

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, in exchange for their access to the EU single market, fund initiatives aimed at reducing social and economic disparities in poorer EU member states.

Efforts by Hungary and Poland to control funds directed to NGOs are blocking negotiations over the renewal of a €1 billion Norwegian scheme to support civil society.

The Central European governments want to take funds from organisations supporting women, gay people and the homeless, among others.

Norway has refused to give in to such demands, meaning that negotiations are stuck.

"The situation is very unclear. In the worst case, the whole support scheme could be blocked," said Vera Mora from the NGO Okotars, which administered the last Norway grant scheme in Hungary.
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, in exchange for their access to the EU single market, fund initiatives aimed at reducing social and economic disparities in poorer EU member states.

Norway is by far the biggest donor of the so-called EEA funds, doling out some 96 percent of the money.

Poland is the largest beneficiary, followed by Romania and Hungary.
Under the next scheme, which runs until 2021, Poland stands to receive €809 million, Hungary €215 million.
The funds cover some shortfalls in healthcare budgets and help companies to adopt green technologies. They pay for the upkeep of cultural heritage sites and fund research projects.
Roughly 10 percent of the cash is dedicated to independent support of civic society, a mandatory part of programme.

In Poland, the Law and Justice (PiS) government has formally announced that it would like the money to be channelled through a government body - although they have yet to establish the body.
And frankly my dear that is quite outrageous! especially given that a strand of contentious opinion on #Brexit recommends that the UK go the EEA route to maintaining Single market access once we have actually exited the EU !!

As a rule of thumb, the further east and south you go across the continent of europe the greater the incidence of systemic corruption within EU member states. The scale of it beggars rational belief. It makes the Danegeld tribute paid by 10th.Century English Kings to keep the foreign invaders quiet seem like spare pocket change.

Brexit needs to be done asap, no further negotiations whatsoever, no compromise transitional EEA membership.

Footnote 4 May 2019:-

Brexit by the way, has already de facto been betrayed, annulled, cancelled.

That particular orchestra packed up and went home ages ago,but the dancers continue to dance.

Confused ? You will be..

(This gleaned from  Wikipedia)

The United Kingdom's component of the 2019 European Parliament election is due to be held on Thursday 23 May 2019. Initially, the elections were not planned as the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union (following the 2016 referendum) was set for 29 March 2019. However, the British government and the European Council agreed to delay Brexit at the European summit on 11 April. While it is the default position in UK and EU law for the election to take place, the UK Government is continuing attempts to avoid participation by agreeing withdrawal before 23 May.

and what precisely is this "parliament " allowed to do?

Article 14 of the Lisbon Treaty describes the functions of the European Parliament:
“The European Parliament shall, jointly with the Council, exercise legislative and budgetary functions. It shall exercise functions of political control and consultation as laid down in the Treaties. It shall elect the President of the Commission.”
(Consolidated versions of the Treaty on European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, 2010)
While the legislative powers of the European Parliament are discussed in the following subsection, its other main powers are then:
Budgetary: together with the Council of Ministers, the Parliament agrees on the budget.
  • The Commission drafts the budget and in April each year sends it to the Council of Ministers and the Parliament
  • The Parliament debates it and, if needed, proposes changes. The draft is sent to the Council, which can propose its own changes, if required, and forwards it back to the Parliament for the second reading.
  • The Parliament can reject it (as it did it in 1979, 1982, and 1984) or adopt it .
Scrutiny: the Parliament has powers over the European Commission and the Presidency of the Council.
  • It can dismiss the Commission and the Commission needs to submit to the European Parliament regular reports, annual legislative programmes and reports on the implementation of the budget. The Council’s nominations for the positions of the President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy must be confirmed by the European Parliament. Finally, the College of Commissioners must be approved by the European Parliament.
  • The Presidency of the Council needs to report to the EP on its priorities and progress.
  • The Parliament monitors the work of the Council of Ministers.
Appointments. The European Parliament :
  • Appoints the President of the Commission, approves the appointment of the Commission and has power to dismiss it.
  • Confirms  the appointment of the president and vice-president of the European Central Bank.
  • Appoints the European Ombudsman.
  • Consults on the appointments of the Court of Auditors

Wow!! so in essence when it comes right down to it, it can do f*** all about f*** all, because ultimately it's the 27 Heads of State or their representatives acting as the EU Council that do all the heavy lifting.

The UK has 73 allocated seats made up of 12 artificially constructed  "regions" with 6 MEPs in each plus an extra seat for Gibraltar included in the South West  "region" allocation of 7. The closed party list system, a recognisable and acceptable form of proportional representation, means you have one vote only and that for the party and its list of 6 candidates as ranked by them. Which is a merde really ,whereas giving the voter the choice of marking the ballot paper in order of individual preference across any and all parties' candidates 1 through to 6 may be deemed unwieldy but the actual exercise of autonomy of choice would be superior.

The ultimate irony of course remains ( unintended pun) the fact of the UK's participation in the 23 May elections,as seems increasingly likely as at 24 April. Such is the magnitude of the debasement of our constitutional order that has been wrought on the Electorate by the Legislature in their vainglorious pursuit of annulling the Democratic result of the EURef 23 June 2016.
